Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Angel Volunteer Donation
Volunteer service to the community is important to Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI). As part of the Blue Angel Community Outreach program, our employees are encouraged to reach out and embrace the Rhode Island community through a variety of service activities. I am proud to report that in 2007, nearly 47% of all our 1100 employees provided volunteer service to the Rhode Island community.
As part of our ongoing efforts to recognize the steadfast and dedicated efforts of our BlueAngel employee volunteers, we hold a quarterly drawing among all employees that log volunteer hours in our volunteer service tracking tool. This quarter, 146 were included in the drawing to win $250.00 to give to the Rhode Island based, nonprofit organization of their choice.
Melissa Ricard, BCBSRI employee and Blue Angel volunteer, was one of five winners this quarter and she has selected your organization as the recipient of the $250.00 Dollars for Doers Award. We hope this award will demonstrate BCBSRI's support for your organization as well as our appreciation to Melissa Ricard for giving of her time to support our community. In the coming weeks, you will receive a check in the amount of $250.00 from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Community Health Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation.
I wish you and your organization much success.
Best regards,
Carolyn E. Belisle

Star - Adoption Update
Star now
She is doing GREAT! The cat who was so freaked out when she got here that she looked like she was plugged into a light socket now is loving, purrs, and has even gained a bit of weight.
We found when she was here that she did have a physical problem that would cause her to be feeling irritable. After her spay, she was much better but has had a hernia operation as well.
A BIG pat on the back to her adopter, who had the patience to work with Star who "did a 180." We are so happy for you both!

Honey the Chihuahua - Update from Dr. Finocchio
There has been much interest expressed in regard to Honey, the 4 LB Chihuahua who was thrown out of a 3rd floor apartment in Pawtucket. Fortunately, Honey survived.
After lengthy discussions with her owner, it was agreed that it would be in the best interest of Honey's welfare and safety that she be relinquished to the RISPCA.
The Marvin Fund, http://www.marvinfund.org/, reimbursed the owner for the purchase price of Honey. On August 8th, the RISPCA became the permanent caretaker of Honey. The legal case is still ongoing and therefore we can not make any definate decisions as to the future of Honey. We would appreciate it if you would follow the progress of the case on our website and avoid phone calls. Honey is doing very well and in safe keeping.
Sincerely,
E.J. Finocchio, D.V.M.

Moose catches us up..........MUST READ
Moose AKA "TheWork in Progress"
When I'm tired of standing I put the bone between Dad's feet so I can lay down & he can hold it for me to chew on. I'm not TOO spoiled. I get tired of holding my bone so dad holds it while I chew on it.
I was trying to open the bench. I got it up with my nose & then it would fall down, so I tried standing on it but that didn't work either. Mom made me get down.
Here I am with my blanket. I was dragging it around and it got my tag caught on it. I BROKE the wire to the tag. I brake lots of things.
